Ukes Of Tomorrow
Cranking the volume up to 11 isn’t hard to do. Ukes of Tomorrow pull the plug and offer a different kind of “acoustic evening”. But, although people will be stunned at their interpretations of classics by; The Jam, Joy Division or Sisters Of Mercy, the duo is now increasingly digging for deeper and not quite so obvious tracks from the back catalogues of; TV Smith, Big Country, Bob Mould, Joe Strummer, The Pogues, Kalashnikov, The Damned or The Descendents – to name just a few. Completed by funny anecdotes about the songs, the odd folk tune or a nod towards their beloved Grunge era by way of Temple Of The Dog for instance.

Produced by Joszi Sorokowski (everybody from Bobby Byrd over Mad Sin to Pressgang).

Biography

Ukes of Tomorrow formed in 2013, playing ukulele punk rock covers and other good music. In Spring, 2021 founding member Thomas “Pommes” Christian decided to leave, and Kent Nielsen (Leroys/Band Full Of Leroys, L.U.L.L., Ugly Food, Attent!on) recruited his band mate of 30 years Torsten “Totti” Scharfenberg (Leroys/Band Full Of Leroys) on ukulele, mandolin and backing vocals. Initially the ukulele Totti had ordered got stuck in the Suez Canal for four months, hence he had no choice but to learn the songs on mandolin for starters, as soon as that task was completed, of course the darn uke showed up on his doorstep and he had to start over again, having been a guitarist for +35 years he’d never played a ukulele before!

Totti and Kent were back on the road by the Summer/Fall of 2021, and quickly the idea developed to record and album’s worth of their ever expanding repertoire. Ukes Of Tomorrow always saw themselves as a “party band”, mainly drawing their material from the hundreds of wonderful punk rock and new wave songs which were released from the late-70s to the mid-80s, many of which qualifies as proper folk songs in their own right by now. Part of the joke was that often the audience would not recognize a song until Kent started singing the first verse, that’s how far removed from the original some of the arrangements are, which the duo come up with.

However, while people will be stunned at their interpretations of classics by; The Jam, Joy Division or Sisters Of Mercy, the addition of Totti to the lineup has meant that the duo is now increasingly digging for deeper and not quite so obvious tracks from the back catalogues of; TV Smith, Big Country, Bob Mould, Joe Strummer, The Pogues, Kalashnikov, The Damned or The Descendents – to name just a few. Including the odd folk song or a nod towards their beloved Grunge era by way of Temple Of The Dog for instance.

It was with that mindset, that the duo transformed Kent’s loft apartment (aptly baptized “The Comfort Inn, Room # 555”) into a studio, whenever they could squeeze in a couple of days off. Manning the desk were none other than famed producer Joszi Sorokowski, with his mobile studio, all of which was hauled up on the 4th floor, and down again once the session was over. The view, overlooking the roof tops of Lübeck’s centuries old inner city, is one you wouldn’t want to miss. As for the songs recorded – they’re even better than the view!
